How Much Does Brand Identity Design Cost? 2026 Prices for the US, UK, Australia and Canada

Honest price bands by market and provider type, the five variables that move a quote, and how to tell an expensive project from an overpriced one.

Branding pricing is opaque because studios rarely publish numbers, and the ones that do often quote a single figure with no scope attached. Here are working ranges we see in 2026 across the US, UK, Australia, Canada and the EU, along with what actually changes the number. Figures are for a single brand and exclude website build, packaging engineering and trademark filing.

Price bands by provider type

ProviderCore identity (USD)What you get
Marketplace / template$50 – $500A mark. No system, no strategy, often no exclusivity.
Freelance designer$800 – $4,000Logo suite, basic colour and type. Quality varies widely.
Independent studio$3,000 – $20,000Strategy-informed identity system with guidelines and applications.
Full-service agency$25,000 – $150,000+Research, naming, identity, packaging, campaign and rollout.

Prices by country

Same scope — a core identity with logo suite, colour system, typography and a short brand guide — priced in local currency by an independent studio:

MarketCore identityFull system + brand book
United States$2,500 – $8,000$8,000 – $25,000
United Kingdom£2,000 – £6,500£6,500 – £20,000
AustraliaA$3,500 – A$11,000A$11,000 – A$35,000
CanadaC$3,200 – C$10,000C$10,000 – C$32,000
Western Europe€2,400 – €7,500€7,500 – €24,000

Two notes on reading this table. First, these are project fees, not hourly rates — a studio in a lower-cost country can quote the same figure because the price reflects the value of the system, not local salaries. Second, the spread within a market is far wider than the spread between markets. Scope beats geography.

The five variables that move a quote

  1. Seniority. Who actually does the work. A senior designer costs more per hour and needs fewer hours.
  2. Strategy depth. A half-day positioning workshop is a few hours. Customer interviews and a competitive audit are weeks.
  3. Number of applications. A logo plus a website is one thing. Uniforms, vehicle livery, packaging across six SKUs and retail signage is another.
  4. Stakeholders. Every extra approver adds rounds. Committees are the most reliable way to double a branding budget.
  5. Rights and exclusivity. Full IP transfer, trademark-safe originality checks and extended licensing all carry real cost.

The cheapest way to reduce a branding quote is not to negotiate the rate. It is to cut the approval chain to one decision maker and to be precise about which applications you genuinely need at launch.

What should be included at each level

Entry (roughly $1,000 – $3,000)

Primary logo, one or two variants, vector files, a small colour palette and font recommendations. Acceptable for a first-year business. Do not expect a documented system.

Core (roughly $3,000 – $10,000)

Full logo suite, complete colour system with accessible pairings, licensed type scale, basic iconography, 10–25 page guidelines and a handful of applications. This is where most growing businesses should be.

System (roughly $10,000 – $30,000)

Everything above, plus positioning work, messaging, photography and illustration direction, templates, and a brand book detailed enough for an in-house team or an external agency to work from without you in the room.

Expensive versus overpriced

A project is expensive when the scope is genuinely large: many applications, real research, several stakeholders. A project is overpriced when the fee is high and the deliverable list is thin. Ask for the deliverable list in writing before you compare two quotes — and see what a complete list looks like in our guide to brand identity services.

One more sanity check: ask what happens after handover. A studio that includes a 30-day support window and a walkthrough of the files is worth meaningfully more than one that disappears on final invoice.

Frequently asked questions

How much should a small business spend on brand identity?

Most land between $2,500 and $8,000 for a core identity. Below roughly $1,000 you are buying artwork, not a system.

Why do branding quotes vary so much?

Seniority, strategy depth, number of applications, number of approvers, and whether research or naming is in scope.

Is a cheap logo ever the right choice?

Yes — when you are testing an idea and expect to rebrand within a year or two. Treat it as a placeholder and keep the vector files.

Should I pay hourly or a fixed project fee?

Fixed fee against a defined deliverable list. It puts the risk of slow rounds on the studio rather than on you.
